Environmental Review is the process of reviewing a proposed action or project to evaluate the potential for environmental, economic, or social impacts and to determine how the project components comply with federal, state, and/or local regulations. Wenck has experience completing environmental review projects under NEPA and MEPA rules in Minnesota and across the Midwest and Front Range portions of the country. From streamlined Environmental Assessment Worksheets (EAW), to Federal Environmental Assessments (EA), to complex multi-agency Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), the Wenck team works directly with our project partners to review the proposed project.
Wenck has experience completing environmental review projects on behalf of the developer proposing the project as well as on behalf of the government agency (City, County, State or Federal) tasked with completing the review process and as a result we have an understanding of the needs of the process from both the developer’s and regulatory agencies perspective. Due to our expertise and reputation in the marketplace, along with our history of successfully completing projects, Wenck is also sought out by many clients to complete environmental review projects. Our overall reputation for quality has established Wenck as a trusted partner for many types of projects including environmental review.
There are several common challenges that often occur as part of environmental review projects including schedule and duration of the project, determining the appropriate level of analysis needed, coordination between agencies tasked with completing the review, and addressing the public review and participation process. One of our strengths for successfully completing environmental review projects is our team’s ability to help our clients navigate through all facets of this complex process. The environmental review process typically takes several months to complete for smaller efforts (e.g. EAW) and can take more than a year to several years for larger efforts (e.g. EIS). Many times, proposers of a project are not familiar with the requirements of the environmental review process and the time it takes to complete all the steps. Wenck coordinates and manages the environmental review process for numerous private developers and public clients from initial project scoping, into project studies and analysis, and finally through the record of decision establishing the process was adequately completed. Our clients trust us to ensure all steps of this process are properly addressed in a timely manner so the project can move forward to permitting and construction.
At Wenck, we approach environmental review projects with an integrated team of scientists, planners, engineers, and technical specialists to complete project studies and develop environmental review documents. The Wenck project manager for the environmental review project works directly with other team members and the client to complete the environmental review process in a timely and efficient manner. Wenck provides field surveys, research, technical analysis and writing expertise in the evaluation of human impact related topics such as air quality, human health risk assessment, land use, threatened and endangered species, traffic, socioeconomics, wetlands, noise, water quality, stormwater, wastewater, GIS mapping and analysis, and cultural/historical resources. Wenck coordinates with local agency staff and federal agencies to prepare, review and complete the technical studies for the project. Our team then summarizes the analysis and potential for impacts along with proposed mitigation measures within the environmental review document. Our depth of technical experience across many technical subject matters combined with our thorough understanding of the environmental review process ensures our clients are able to efficiently complete environmental review for their projects.
