ATLANTA (February 2017) – Wenck announced today that it has hired Kristen Ritter Rivera, P.G., as water protection and remediation practice leader in the southeast region. Rivera brings more than 18 years of diverse environmental experience to Wenck and its clients.
Rivera previously worked for the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) where she developed broad technical experience across several areas during her time in the Water Protection Branch and Land Protection Branch. Her experience in the Water Protection Branch focused on water quality studies, macroinvertebrate biological assessments, watershed assessments, TMDLs, and Georgia’s 305(b)/303(d) List of Waters. Her experience in the Land Protection Branch focused on RCRA corrective action and the State Superfund Program.
Rivera has transferred and leveraged her regulatory expertise as an environmental consultant while managing a variety of projects at sites that range from Brownfield redevelopment, chemical plants, pulp and paper mills, manufactured gas plants, industrial-sized dry cleaners, agriculture/pesticide facilities, quarries, and recycling facilities.
“Kristen’s experience as a regulator for the Georgia EPD combined with her experience in environmental consulting brings a unique perspective to our team and, more importantly, to the solutions we present to our clients,” said Katie Ross, P.G., real estate & remediation practice leader.
Rivera’s practice area includes many sectors including manufacturing, recycling, commercial/residential development, and mining. Her primary areas of expertise include investigation and remediation of soil, groundwater, and surface water impacts from releases of hazardous waste and/or hazardous waste constituents.
Rivera is a registered professional geologist in Georgia and Florida with a B.S. in earth and atmospheric sciences from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.S. in geology from Georgia State University. She is a member of AWMA, GAWP, and the Georgia Brownfield Association. She has presented at conferences including the Annual AWMA Conference, the Southern Section AWMA Conference, and the AIPG Georgia Section Annual Conference.
”My extensive experience and understanding of regulatory processes and procedures coupled with my professional relationships and technical skills will help support Wenck as a leading environmental consultant in the southeast,” said Rivera.
Rivera joins the Atlanta office, which has recently made a substantial investment to expand its real estate, remediation, and water resources capabilities. She joins an established practice that has been successfully providing outstanding consulting, compliance and sustainability services in Atlanta for nearly 10 years. With the expanded group, Wenck is strategically positioned to leverage the expertise and energy of the new group, along with a unique established culture of performance, teamwork, trust, and fun to deliver solutions to its clients in Atlanta and the southeast.
